Watanga FC coach demands answers over CAF exclusion

Watanga FC head coach Theophilus Geekor has demanded explanations from the Liberia Football Association (LFA) regarding the club’s exclusion from the 2026-27 CAF Champions League. Despite winning the 2025-26 LFA First Division League title, the club was unable to participate in Africa’s premier club competition because the LFA failed to complete registration with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) before the July deadline.

Geekor expressed deep personal and professional frustration, noting that the administrative lapse denied the team and players a significant opportunity for continental representation. He questioned whether the failure was deliberate and noted that the club has yet to receive a clear explanation four matches into the new domestic season.

Football consultant Wleh Bedell has also raised concerns regarding the management of Liberian football, noting that both Watanga FC and Black Man Warriors FC missed out on their respective CAF competitions due to registration failures. Bedell criticized the lack of accountability and punitive measures against those responsible for the administrative errors, suggesting the situation could impact player motivation and international exposure.
