wataru and Taihua Kiln launch world's first automatic ceramic matcha whisk

wataru, in collaboration with ceramic brand Taihua Kiln, has launched the ‘Cha Maker’ (智茶碗), the world’s first ceramic automatic matcha whisk. The device aims to simplify the traditional, labor-intensive process of whisking matcha, making high-quality tea more accessible for both commercial cafes and home use.

The Cha Maker utilizes ‘Dynamic Speed Modulation’ technology, which features a four-stage whisking process: dispersing powder, blending, foaming, and homogenizing. This automated approach is designed to reduce clumping and produce a more consistent, fine texture compared to manual whisking. Naoki Kitagawa, the sixth-generation successor of the 165-year-old Kyoto-based Kitagawa Hanbe'e Store, endorsed the device, noting its ability to create fine bubbles and a smooth mouthfeel.

To celebrate its first anniversary, wataru is also introducing new products, including ‘Wakaba’ single-origin matcha from Kumamoto, Japan, and an apple-themed matcha series. Additionally, the brand has partnered with Supranormal Bakery Café and EATDONUT to release four limited-edition roasted tea (hojicha) desserts.
