Wataya Besso opens permanent ‘Calling’ craft and fashion store

Wataya Besso has opened a permanent retail location for the BEAMS project ‘Calling’ at its ‘NATIVE PLACE Maki’ facility in Ureshino, Saga Prefecture. The store officially opened on September 12, 2026.

The ‘Calling’ project aims to preserve traditional craftsmanship by reinterpreting it through the lens of modern fashion. This permanent installation follows six previous pop-up events held at the inn since September 2022.

Featured brands at the location include ‘CATHRI’, which produces relaxing apparel using Kurume Kasuri—a designated important intangible cultural property—and ‘HIZEN jewelry’, which reimagines ceramics from five major kilns in the Hizen region as jewelry. The initiative seeks to create a travel experience where guests can engage with traditional manufacturing alongside hot springs, food, and local culture.
