Watchdog group sues to block Jared Kushner from envoy role
The watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has filed a lawsuit seeking to block Jared Kushner from serving as a special envoy for the Trump administration. The legal action argues that Kushner’s role as a chief negotiator on major foreign policy issues—including conflicts involving Israel, Hamas, Ukraine, Russia, and Iran—requires him to comply with federal ethics and transparency laws.
CREW contends that Kushner is acting as an official government employee without Senate confirmation or financial disclosure, creating significant potential for conflicts of interest. The group highlights that Kushner manages an investment firm overseeing billions in foreign-owned assets while representing U.S. interests abroad.
The White House has dismissed CREW as an ‘unserious’ organization and maintains that Kushner is a private citizen performing diplomatic duties on a volunteer basis. Kushner’s attorney, Chad Mizelle, stated the lawsuit is unfounded, noting that Kushner receives no government salary or compensation and pays his own expenses.
