Water and sanitation infrastructure investments expand in Dominican Republic and Peru
In the Dominican Republic, the National Institute of Potable Water and Sewerage (Inapa) is prioritizing water and sanitation infrastructure as a driver for economic growth. Director Wellington Arnaud stated that developing these systems in advance of industrial expansion is essential for sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and energy. Notable examples include the Miches and Cabo Rojo tourist destinations, where infrastructure preceded major projects. Inapa reported executing approximately 10,250 million pesos in 2025, benefiting over three million people through the installation of 3,000 kilometers of piping and various water and sanitation systems.
In Peru, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) has signed a contract with China Water & Electric Corp. to design and execute Siphon No. 3, a component of the Chavimochic Special Project's third stage. The project requires an investment of S/ 145 million and is expected to take roughly 50 weeks. This work falls under a Government-to-Government (G2G) agreement between Peru and Canada. Additionally, the Rafael Quevedo Flores Dam has reached 70% physical progress, with a contract for the remaining work expected in December to bolster water security for the La Libertad region.
