Water conservation leaders highlight sustainability and equity initiatives

The water efficiency and conservation sector is highlighting upcoming industry milestones and recognizing leadership in resource management. The WaterSmart Innovations 2026 conference is scheduled for October 21-23, 2026, in Portland, Oregon. The event aims to address challenges such as climate change, population growth, droughts, and wildfires by focusing on practical strategies for water utility efficiency and long-term water security.

Additionally, the Alliance for Water Efficiency (AWE) has announced its 2026 award winners. The Portland Water Bureau received the Excellence in Equity Award for its efforts to advance equitable water access. The Bureau has implemented programs such as the Home Water Leak Repair Program for income-qualified homeowners and has integrated social vulnerability data into its asset management and capital planning to support underserved communities.
