Water crisis in Guadalajara sparks political dispute

A severe water crisis in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, Jalisco, has sparked political conflict between federal and state representatives. Legislators from the PAN party have denounced the poor quality of water being supplied to thousands of families, reporting issues with odor, coloration, and potential contamination. Residents have reportedly experienced skin and stomach ailments, forcing many to incur extra costs for filters and bottled water.

During a session at San Lázaro, the issue led to a confrontation between Morena and Movimiento Ciudadano. A Morena deputy presented a bottle of dirty water to the plenary, accusing the Jalisco state government of providing water contaminated with heavy metals and fecal matter. In response, Movimiento Ciudadano representatives rejected the accusations, claiming the federal government has abandoned Jalisco through budget cuts. They have called for 8.5 billion pesos to be included in the federal budget to complete the El Zapotillo dam project to address the shortage.
