Water Guardian launches sanitation facilities in Kemayoran

Indonesian student Darren Ismaya Karmaina has launched Water Guardian, a social initiative aimed at addressing clean water and sanitation issues. The project’s first implementation involved the construction of bathing, washing, and toilet (MCK) facilities for residents in the Kemayoran area of Central Jakarta.

The initiative seeks to translate youth environmental concern into tangible action, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6. Following a groundbreaking ceremony in June 2026, the facility was officially inaugurated and entered its operational phase on September 5, 2026.

Water Guardian intends to use the Kemayoran site as a model for a systematic framework involving building, operating, measuring, researching, improving, and replicating. The project emphasizes long-term sustainability through community participation, routine maintenance, and water quality monitoring, with plans to scale the model to other regions if successful.
