Water infrastructure failures cause flooding and shortages in Italy
Major water infrastructure failures have caused significant disruption across parts of Italy. In Rosciano, the rupture of a main pressurized pipeline from the Consorzio Bonifica Centro network flooded streets and fields, damaging two vehicles. The affected pipeline, made of fiberglass and dating back to the late 1980s, was originally designed for an agricultural area that has since undergone urban expansion.
In the Campania region, a regional water main rupture near Maddaloni continues to impact Caserta and several surrounding municipalities. Residents have faced prolonged water shortages, with service restoration taking longer than scheduled by the utility provider, Nepta. The emergency has also disrupted rail services on the Cancello-San Clemente line, forcing the suspension of travel between Cassino and Naples and necessitating replacement bus services.
