Water infrastructure projects advance in Michoacán and Baja California Sur
Significant hydraulic infrastructure projects are underway in two Mexican states to improve water security and distribution.
In La Piedad, Michoacán, rehabilitation of the potable water network has begun in the Los Guajes locality. Managed through a tripartite funding model, the project involves 50 percent federal resources from the National Water Commission (Conagua), 25 percent from the Michoacán state government, and 25 percent from the La Piedad municipal government. The 7.29 million peso investment includes the installation of over 3,600 meters of piping and chlorination equipment, with completion expected by December.
In La Paz, Baja California Sur, construction continues on the El Novillo dam, recently renamed “La Perseverante” by President Claudia Sheinbaum. This project, described as a major regional water work, aims to capture and store rainwater to benefit more than 300,000 residents. Local officials, including Mayor Milena Quiroga Romero, and Conagua Director Efraín Morales López have supervised the progress, noting the dam's strategic location in a high-precipitation zone.
