Water supply and sanitation updates in Mozambique and Brazil

Various regions in Mozambique and Brazil are experiencing significant challenges and developments regarding water supply and sanitation. In Beira, Mozambique, residents in the Manganhe, Macurungo, and Macúti neighborhoods are facing a severe water crisis. Due to low network pressure, families have resorted to digging pits in their yards and cutting into main pipes to access unsafe water for drinking and cooking.

In Brazil, several municipalities are implementing infrastructure projects to address water and sewage needs. In Parnaíba, Piauí, Águas do Piauí is expanding sewage connections in the Ceará neighborhood. In Mariana, Minas Gerais, a new 1-million-liter reservoir system is undergoing testing to improve water security. In Parauapebas, Pará, Águas do Pará is installing a new 1-kilometer adutora to boost pressure for over 11,000 residents in Cidade Jardim.

Other local updates include the installation of a new water network in Blumenau, Santa Catarina, and the construction of reservoirs in the Uaicurapá region of Parintins, Amazonas. Additionally, in Conselheiro Pena, Minas Gerais, Funasa and MAB are working to provide water filters and chlorine to families relying on well water due to lack of piped supply. Meanwhile, a pipe rupture in Itabira, Minas Gerais, has threatened water supply for 43 neighborhoods.
