Water infrastructure projects expand in Santiago and Santo Domingo

In Santiago, the expansion of the Cibao Central aqueduct is expected to increase water availability to six cubic meters per second, providing a solution for the province for over 50 years. Andrés Cueto Rosario, director of CORAASAN, stated that each cubic meter per second provides approximately 22 million gallons daily. The project includes the construction of the San Francisco de Jacagua aqueduct, which has a projected capacity of one cubic meter per second to supply northern communities and sectors of Santiago.

Additional works in Santiago include the installation of nine tanks expected by mid-next year, the rehabilitation of aqueducts, and the expansion of the La Barranquita system. Cueto noted that unplanned urban growth complicates the installation of essential water and electricity networks.

In Santo Domingo, the Corporación del Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Santo Domingo (CAASD) reported a 94.5% increase in water network repairs between January and April 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. Under the Plan de Zona, the institution repaired 5,412 faults during that period. Furthermore, maintenance of sanitary networks reached 1,155,644 linear meters through August 2026, an 8.09% increase over the total recorded in 2025.
