Water infrastructure upgrades announced in UK and Australia
Northumbrian Water has commenced a £20 million upgrade at the Bishop Auckland sewage treatment works in County Durham, UK. This project is part of a larger £100 million investment aimed at protecting the River Wear. The enhancements focus on improving treatment processes to increase the removal of phosphorous and ammonia, with construction expected to continue until early 2028.
In Western Australia, the Water Corporation has initiated planning for a $105 million upgrade to the Subiaco Water Resource Recovery Facility in Perth. The project aims to increase the plant's capacity by approximately 23 million litres per day to support housing developments for an estimated 135,000 people over the next 25 years. The upgrades will also focus on improving water recycling capabilities and investigating advanced odour control systems.
