Chaco and Santa Fe respond to flooding and rising river levels
Authorities in the Argentine provinces of Chaco and Santa Fe are implementing emergency measures due to rising river levels and flooding, exacerbated by the El Niño phenomenon. In Chaco, Governor Leandro Zdero has coordinated the deployment of recovered vessels to the Police Fluvial Division for rescue and assistance. Evacuees in Puerto Vilelas are receiving housing, food, healthcare, and psychological support at containment centers. Additionally, the provincial water company, Sameep, has warned of potential supply issues in Resistencia and surrounding areas as high river levels complicate water intake and purification processes.
In Santa Fe, the provincial government is reinforcing coastal defenses along Route 1 between Helvecia and Saladero Cabal to protect against the rising San Javier River. In Las Toscas, several families have been evacuated or have self-evacuated due to rising waters. The Ministry of Public Works has also reported ongoing maintenance on drainage systems and canals across 92 vulnerable localities to mitigate flood risks.
