Water management and river levels face challenges in Salland and the Lesse

Water management and availability remain critical issues in the Salland region of the Netherlands. To address challenges such as drinking water shortages, flooding from heavy rainfall, and irrigation restrictions during dry periods, the Salland Café Water event will be held on September 4 at Van Remmen UV Technology in Boerhaar. The program includes workshops on soil improvement, water conservation, and smart agricultural water use, alongside excursions to the Vitens Boerhaar drinking water extraction area.

In Belgium, recent rainfall has allowed for a cautious resumption of kayaking on the Lesse river near Dinant. Commercial kayaking activities had been suspended for approximately 44 days, starting July 9, due to exceptionally low water levels caused by prolonged drought. While water levels have risen enough to restart activities on parts of the river, restrictions remain in place as the situation stabilizes.
