Water management and waste valorization technologies advance in Chile and Ecuador

Various technological initiatives are being implemented in Chile and Ecuador to promote circular water management and waste valorization.

In Chile, the CEAZA project, “Aplicación y Adaptación de Tecnologías en el Reúso de Agua a través de Humedales Depuradores,” is engaging with the private sector in La Serena. The project recently visited local businesses, including Qamawi and Cervecería Ánima, to discuss water efficiency and the potential use of purifying wetlands as a nature-based solution for water treatment and reuse.

In Ecuador, the Instituto de Investigación Geológico y Energético (IIGE), with funding from the AECID, presented the PTAR-Biocarbón wastewater treatment system in Manabí. This system is part of a project aimed at obtaining bio-products through the pyrolysis of organic urban solid waste. The technology is being applied to treat water used in banana washing processes, benefiting over two thousand members of the National Federation of Banana Producers of Ecuador (FENAPROPE).
