Water management disputes arise in Castilla-La Mancha municipalities
In Caudete, local official José Miguel Mollá Nieto has denounced the Government of Castilla-La Mancha for failing to return 25% of the water canon collected during 2025. According to Mollá, the municipality transferred a total of 179,202.85 euros to the regional administration, of which 44,800.71 euros should have been reimbursed to the municipal coffers. He noted that eleven months have passed without the funds being returned, despite commitments to use these resources for the integral water cycle.
Meanwhile, in Mota del Cuervo, the municipal group Unidas por Mota is calling for a reduction in water prices. The request follows an emergency situation caused by damage to the Tubería Manchega infrastructure, which has forced the local government to rely on its own water resources to maintain supply. Spokesperson Jacobo Medianero argued that residents and businesses should not bear the full cost of a situation they did not cause, suggesting that the savings from using local resources should be passed on to consumers through temporary price reductions.
