Water management experts address flood mitigation and transport resilience
Experts and organizations are addressing water management and climate resilience through specialized conferences in Europe. In Krnov, the third annual ‘Cesta vody’ (Way of Water) conference will focus on methods to retain water in lowland and sub-mountainous landscapes to mitigate flood consequences. Organized by the National Institute for Integrated Landscape and People in Need, the event aims to combine modern engineering with nature-based solutions to increase landscape retention capacity.
Separately, the European Council of Carriers (ESC) has called for a pan-European strategy to address future low water levels. During a conference on the Prague–Slapy route, the ESC proposed a three-part strategy: supporting transport companies in adapting fleets, investing in climate-resilient multimodal infrastructure (including waterways, ports, and rail), and providing targeted support for carriers facing additional logistical costs due to low water levels. The ESC suggests that European Commission guidelines should facilitate state aid for temporary shifts to other modes of transport and investments in resilient facilities, rather than covering standard economic risks.
