Water management initiatives launched in Mexico and Peru
In Mexico, the Junta Central de Agua y Saneamiento (JCAS) has launched the ‘Fortalecimiento de Capacidades Proagua 2026’ program. This initiative aims to enhance the technical and operational skills of personnel working for water operating boards and potable water committees. The program includes various courses and certifications provided by specialists from the Asociación Nacional de Entidades de Agua y Saneamiento de México (ANEAS) throughout August, September, and October 2026. Training topics include the installation of water intakes and wastewater discharge, hydraulic operation of wells, and wastewater treatment using activated sludge.
In Peru, the Junta Administradora de Servicios de Saneamiento (JASS) of Expetroleros I Zona in the Loreto region has been recognized as a regional model for its management of potable water services. Awarded by the Superintendencia Nacional de Servicios de Saneamiento (Sunass), the recognition highlights the organization's formal structure, commitment to maintenance, and effective water quality controls. The JASS serves 231 members by treating water from the Pintuyacu stream through flocculation and disinfection processes.
