Water quality and environmental updates in the Czech Republic

Water quality monitoring in the Moravian-Silesian Region shows varying conditions for summer swimming. While Stříbrné jezero is rated as suitable for bathing, the reservoir in Budišov nad Budišovkou has shown degraded sensory properties since late June. At Hlučínské jezero, water quality remains stable and suitable for swimming despite previous concerns regarding cyanobacteria. However, freshwater jellyfish (Craspedacusta sowerbii) have been observed in the lake; officials note these small organisms do not pose a health risk as their stinging cells cannot penetrate human skin.

In a separate environmental development, the Sedmihorské mokřady (Sedmihory Wetlands) have seen a significant increase in water volume following revitalization efforts. Data from a two-year study conducted by the Czech Union for Nature Conservation reveals that disabling the drainage system in a revitalized 6-hectare area has resulted in an increase in water equivalent to five Olympic-sized swimming pools. This study compared the revitalized section to a non-revitalized area to objectively measure the impact of restored water regimes on the landscape.
