Water quality warnings and swimming bans issued at Czech reservoirs
Health officials in the Czech Republic have issued warnings and bans regarding water quality at several recreational sites due to deteriorating conditions. At the Plumlov Reservoir near Prostějov, swimming is strictly prohibited after water quality dropped to the highest risk level (level five) due to high concentrations of cyanobacteria. Exposure may lead to skin rashes, eye irritation, or gastrointestinal issues.
In the South Moravian Region, water quality remains compromised at several locations. The lagoons of the Nové Mlýny reservoir and the Letovice-Vranová reservoir have been rated at level four, meaning the water does not meet hygienic requirements and poses health risks, particularly to children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.
The Brno Reservoir is currently at level three, indicating a slightly increased probability of health problems. Hygienists recommend showering after swimming in these areas. Experts note that warm weather and droughts contribute to these issues by promoting cyanobacteria growth and reducing water flow.
