Water reservoirs in Chile and Spain face varying drought conditions

Water reservoirs in Chile and Spain are facing varying levels of stress due to seasonal weather patterns and drought conditions.

In Chile, the Puclaro Reservoir in the Coquimbo Region has reached 30% of its total capacity, holding approximately 62.58 million cubic meters of water. This follows winter rains that helped the reservoir recover from critical levels of 5% seen earlier this year. The reservoir is a vital resource for the Elqui Valley's agricultural activities.

In Spain, the Pontillón Reservoir in Pontevedra is entering a critical drought phase. With the Lérez River at extremely low flow levels, authorities may soon have to rely on the reservoir for supply. Current estimates suggest that if the river supply is cut, the reservoir holds only about 20 days of water based on local consumption. The situation is exacerbated by a lack of short-term rain forecasts and high temperatures.
