Water safety bans and lifting of restrictions in Pakistan and India

Authorities in the Hyderabad division of Pakistan have imposed a 30-day ban on swimming and bathing in the Indus River, canals, ponds, and lakes following a surge in drowning incidents. Commissioner Fayaz Hussain Abbasi issued the order under Section 144 CrPC after more than a dozen people, including children and youths, lost their lives in the Hyderabad and Jacobabad districts over recent days. In Thatta, officials also warned of rising water levels due to the monsoon season.

In contrast, restrictions at Hogenakkal in India have been lifted as river levels recede. Following heavy rainfall in the Cauvery catchment areas that previously made coracle rides and bathing unsafe, officials have permitted tourist activities to resume in designated safe zones. Police and Fire and Rescue Services personnel have been deployed to monitor visitors and ensure safety measures are followed.
