Recent environmental and maritime reports from Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Croatia highlight varying levels of water safety and maritime incidents.
In Montenegro, the Institute of Marine Biology conducted analyses of 114 locations. Results show that 73.7% of sites have excellent water quality, while 1.8% are of poor quality. Specifically, swimming is prohibited at the Donja Lastva 01 beach in Tivat due to high levels of E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Conversely, water quality in Baošići has improved to a satisfactory level.
In North Macedonia, the public utility company Komunalec Gostivar confirmed that drinking water from the public network meets all physical, chemical, and microbiological standards following laboratory testing.
In Croatia, police in Istria are investigating a maritime incident on the Brijuni Islands involving a vessel that resembled a military ship. While the vessel was registered in Croatia and operated by a Slovenian citizen, it lacked visible registration markings. Authorities clarified that no protected persons were present during the encounter and the operator did not falsely identify himself to officers, though a criminal investigation into potential legal violations continues.
