Meanwhile, in Ciudad Vieja, Sacatepéquez, Guatemala, municipal authorities have issued an urgent plea to residents to conserve water during a period of drought. The municipality requested that citizens refrain from wasting potable water during Independence Day celebrations, specifically noting that water should not be thrown at participants during torch processions. Authorities announced they will conduct supervisions and document instances of waste to issue fines.
