Water scarcity challenges families in Simanjiro, Tanzania

In the Simanjiro region of Tanzania, residents face extreme challenges regarding water access. Mothers and children must endure long, difficult journeys to secure basic necessities.

One mother, Nangida, travels ten kilometers twice a day to reach the nearest water source while carrying a baby on her back and managing a toddler. This labor often falls on young children as well; Nangida’s eight-year-old daughter, Sophie, assists with the task, which results in Sophie missing school to help the family.
