Water scarcity triggers rationing in Colombia and Spain

Water scarcity is intensifying in several regions due to drought conditions. In Santander, Colombia, the number of municipalities affected by the El Niño phenomenon has doubled to eleven localities. Critical declines in reservoir and water source levels have forced scheduled water cuts in provinces such as García Rovira, Guanentá, and Vélez. In Málaga, rationing reaches approximately seven hours daily, primarily during the night and early morning.

In Cuntis, Spain, local authorities have implemented restrictions on potable water use following a drop in the Umia River's flow. The municipal decree prohibits using the water network for filling private pools, watering gardens, washing vehicles, or cleaning facades. Meanwhile, the neighboring municipality of Moraña is already utilizing water trucks to supply two rural areas due to the failure of local water captures.
