Water security and agricultural efficiency discussed in Burgas
Experts from Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, and Georgia gathered in Burgas for the ‘National Approaches to Water and Food Security’ congress. Part of the GwB project, the forum focused on improving water efficiency in agriculture and irrigation to combat climate risks and ensure food security.
Separately, during the BULAKVA annual conference, Kate Stanton-Davies of the IWA Water Loss Specialist Group reported that water losses in Bulgaria reach 60 percent. This figure includes non-revenue water and unbilled legal usage. Addressing such losses is critical for reducing costs, lowering carbon emissions, and ensuring sustainable water supplies amidst rising global water stress caused by population growth, climate change, and industrial demand.
