Water security becomes critical economic factor for Southeast Asia and UK

Water security is emerging as a critical economic factor for businesses in Southeast Asia and the United Kingdom. In Southeast Asia, companies are increasingly viewing water availability and quality as fundamental inputs that impact supply chain resilience and long-term growth. The Asian Development Bank estimates the region will require approximately US$4 trillion in investment for water, sanitation, and hygiene through 2040 to combat environmental degradation and intensifying hazards.

In the United Kingdom, Ofwat is overseeing the Major Water Infrastructure Programme (MWIP) to address potential public water supply shortfalls. The program includes a portfolio of 30 major infrastructure projects with an estimated total expenditure exceeding £50 billion. These projects aim to mitigate risks posed by climate change and population growth, utilizing competitive procurement models to enhance supply and reduce demand.
