Water service reforms and tariff updates in Sicily
In the province of Trapani, the Assemblea Territoriale Idrica (ATI) has approved an operational agreement with Invitalia to move toward a single provincial water service manager. This strategic step involves technical and operational support to manage a tender for a public-private mixed company. The goal is to provide coordinated and sustainable water management for 24 municipalities, though Pantelleria remains excluded due to its current protection status.
In Ragusa, the ATI has approved a tariff adjustment for the integrated water service for the 2026–2029 regulatory period. Following Arera guidelines, the adjustment for 2026–2027 aims to cover effective costs. Despite the planned increase, Ragusa’s water costs remain significantly lower than the Italian national average. For a typical domestic user, the projected 2026 expenditure in Ragusa is 226 euros per year (1.50 euros per cubic meter), compared to a national average of 388 euros per year.
