Water service suspended in Barahona and Bahoruco due to river flooding

The National Institute of Potable Water and Sewerage (INAPA) has temporarily suspended potable water services in the Dominican Republic provinces of Barahona and Bahoruco. The suspension is due to the rising levels and high turbidity of the Yaque del Sur River, which serves as the primary water source.

The outage also affects parts of Independencia and impacts the operations of the Southwest Regional Aqueduct (Asuro). Regional director Elson Peña stated that the river's current conditions prevent the system from operating normally.

Heavy rains in the region have also caused localized flooding, with at least 15 homes reported flooded in the La Peñuela sector of Cabral. Strong winds accompanying the rainfall have also knocked down trees in the municipalities of Cabral and El Peñón. Authorities have urged residents to use available water supplies rationally until service is restored.
