Water services face disruptions in Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic

Water supply and infrastructure works are currently impacting residents in parts of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

In Puerto Rico, the executive president of the Autoridad de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AAA), Luis Reinaldo González Delgado, reported that water service in Cupey has been interrupted for several days. The recovery of the service will be gradual as the system refills pipes, tanks, and pumping stations. González Delgado stated that the recovery process depends on consumption levels and noted that the system requires 48-hour periods to ensure restoration. He indicated that areas closest to the primary pump should see service returning first.

In the Dominican Republic, Felipe “Fellito” Suberví, director of the Corporación del Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Santo Domingo (Caasd), is inspecting sanitation and potable water works in several neighborhoods, including Villas Agrícolas, Villa Juana, Villa Consuelo, Villa Francisca, and San Carlos. These projects involve excavations and street closures to address sewage issues and improve water access. The initiative, part of the “La Caasd te escucha” program, involves an initial investment of RD$900 million and is being executed in stages to minimize the impact on local commerce and traffic.
