Water shortages and quality concerns reported in Montenegro and Serbia
Residents in several regions of Montenegro and Serbia are facing significant water supply challenges. In Kolašin, Montenegro, a dry period has led to mandatory water restrictions. Residents have reported receiving turbid, mud-like water, raising concerns regarding its safety for consumption. Miloš Peković, director of the Kolašin Water and Sewerage company, stated that restrictions are necessary to refill reservoirs during nighttime to ensure supply during the day. The Institute for Public Health is currently awaiting results from new water samples taken to determine if the water meets safety standards.
In the Sjenica region of Serbia, specifically in the Medare settlement, residents report having been without regular water supply for three months. Locals describe a difficult daily routine where they must purchase bottled water for drinking and wait until the middle of the night to access water for basic hygiene. The shortage is reportedly affecting several areas, including Breze and Zaječići, as residents call for urgent government intervention to resolve the long-term infrastructure issues.
