Water shortages cause school closures in Tropea and Furreddu

Water supply issues have led to the suspension of educational activities in several Italian locations. In Tropea, the Istituto comprensivo Tropea-Ricadi ‘Don Francesco Mottola’ suspended classes at the primary, secondary, and nursery levels after a water shortage made it impossible to maintain necessary hygiene standards. The decision was made by school director Francesco Fiumara following reports of the outage, requiring parents to collect students who remained under staff supervision until their arrival.

In Furreddu, a primary school experienced a water outage that initially appeared to be a technical fault. However, investigations revealed that the water supply had been cut off because the meter valve had been closed. This incident follows similar disruptions in other local schools, where water shortages have necessitated closures and the use of water tankers. Local authorities and labor unions have called for improved interventions to prevent further service interruptions.
