Water shortages reported in Pernambuco municipalities

Residents in several municipalities in the Sertão region of Pernambuco, Brazil, are reporting severe water shortages. In Orocó, specifically in the Ruas Projetadas area, families have been without water supply for over 10 days, forcing them to purchase mineral water for basic needs and hygiene.

Similarly, in Ouricuri, residents face prolonged periods of water scarcity. Citizens have expressed frustration over receiving regular utility bills from Compesa (Companhia Pernambucana de Saneamento) despite the lack of consistent service. The crisis has led to calls for emergency measures, such as the deployment of water trucks (carros-pipa), and demands for greater accountability from local municipal governments and state authorities.
