Water shortages reported in Pinar del Río and Bariloche

Residents in Pinar del Río, Cuba, are facing severe water shortages, with some areas reporting no service for over 57 days. In the provincial capital, citizens have expressed desperation as pipes remain dry, forcing many to rely on expensive water trucks. In some communities, the lack of service has persisted for up to a year. The high cost of purchasing water, with prices ranging from 150 to 300 pesos per gallon, has placed a significant financial burden on households with limited income.

In Bariloche, Argentina, Aguas Rionegrinas is working to maintain potable water supplies due to high turbidity levels in the Ñireco River. While turbidity has decreased, it has not yet reached levels safe for standard purification. To assist affected neighborhoods, the company has deployed water tankers and is utilizing an alternative stream with acceptable water quality. Distribution is being managed through sectorized schedules in various residential areas to ensure equitable access while monitoring the river for normalization.
