Water supply disruptions hit Puerto Vallarta and Guatemala City

Major water supply disruptions are affecting large populations in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and Guatemala City, Guatemala, due to infrastructure failures.

In Puerto Vallarta, SEAPAL Vallarta reported a massive outage affecting more than 120 neighborhoods following a break in a main distribution line near the Puerto Vallarta-Bucerías highway. Technical crews are working on repairs, which are expected to take approximately 48 hours. Authorities have deployed emergency water tankers to supply affected residents while the network is gradually restored.

In Guatemala City, EMPAGUA suspended water services in zones 11 and 12 due to damage in a main pipe within the Ojo de Agua pumping system. The damage was caused by a ‘water hammer’ effect resulting from drastic flow variations following electrical power outages. Repairs are underway, with service expected to be restored gradually over the next 24 hours as the system stabilizes pressure.
