Water supply improves in Honduras as flooding hits Ecuador
In Honduras, residents of the Central District, including Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela, will receive water more frequently following the recovery of reservoir levels. Mayor Juan Diego Zelaya announced that the distribution cycle will improve from every 12 days to every nine days. This change follows the Los Laureles dam reaching 100% capacity. The La Concepción reservoir has also recovered to 40.24% capacity. To further optimize resources, authorities are implementing a water transfer from Los Laureles to the La Concepción treatment plant via a 10-kilometer pipeline.
In Ecuador, heavy rainfall has caused flooding in Babahoyo and Balao. In Babahoyo, the overflowing Chilintomo River affected approximately 150 families in the Las Cañitas sector. The National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR) has coordinated the delivery of water tanks to assist displaced residents. Meanwhile, in Balao, officials are assessing damage in the Las Madres, Santa Teresita, and Barrio Nuevo sectors to identify families requiring humanitarian aid.
