Water-Themed Art Exhibitions Open in France and Italy
The Fondation Maeght in Saint‑Paul‑de‑Vence, Provence, is hosting a new exhibition of works by abstract artist Ellsworth Kelly. Curated by Jack Shear and historian Éric de Chassey, the show explores water as an abstract motif, featuring drawings and paintings from the 1940s onward, including the 1947 piece “Sluice Gates.” The exhibition opened in the summer of 2024 and emphasizes Kelly’s geometric interpretation of fluid forms.
In Campagna, Italy, the historic Chiostro di Palazzo di Città will present the collective show “Forme di una città liquida” from 10 to 25 August 2026. Curated by Francesco Piazza, the exhibition gathers ten contemporary artists who examine water’s role in shaping urban identity, memory and social life. Linked to the local “La Chiena” water festival, the project highlights how flowing water influences the cultural and spatial fabric of the town.
