Water utilities report infrastructure improvements and leadership recognition
Water utility services in Chile and the Dominican Republic have reported significant developments in management and production capacity.
In Chile, the Municipal Water and Sewerage Service (SMAPA Maipú) received the Public Leadership Award at the Expo Agua Santiago 2026. The award recognizes the institution's efforts to improve sanitary management and water security in the Maipú commune, marking a period of recovery in key performance indicators following previous investment challenges.
In the Dominican Republic, the Santiago Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (Coraasan) announced that its daily potable water production increased from 107 million gallons in 2020 to 169 million gallons in 2026. Director General Andrés Cueto attributed this 62-million-gallon increase to infrastructure rehabilitation, including the Noriega I Water Treatment Plant. Additionally, Coraasan reported a 25% increase in wastewater collection due to network modernization and the installation of new pumping stations and storage tanks.
