Water utility management and rate adjustments in Mexico and Argentina
In Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the water utility Seapal Vallarta has taken direct control of technical works on the San Francisco Tank lines. This intervention follows delays by a private contractor responsible for infrastructure work linked to the Puerto Vallarta–Las Varas highway construction. Seapal Vallarta personnel are managing the interconnection of eight junctions across four main pipes to accelerate the normalization of water flow to affected neighborhoods.
In San Francisco, Argentina, the municipality is implementing a gradual approach to passing on water service rate increases to residents. These increases, authorized by the provincial regulator Ersep, were applied to the cooperative Cotac. To mitigate the financial impact on citizens, the local administration has been absorbing a portion of the costs and applying monthly staggered adjustments. Additionally, the city is working to introduce smart meters to ensure tariffs are aligned with actual consumption across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.
