Watercare begins $1.7 billion Waikato water supply programme

Watercare has initiated a Registration of Interest process for the $1.7 billion Waikato Water Supply Programme. The project aims to strengthen Auckland’s long-term water security, support regional growth, and improve resilience against climate pressures.

The programme will utilize existing consented allocations from the Waikato River and includes the construction of a new raw water intake, increased treatment capacity, approximately 50 kilometres of pipeline, and a 50-megalitre reservoir at Pukekohe West. The project is targeted for completion by the end of 2033. Watercare is seeking Alliance delivery partners to manage the scale and complexity of the infrastructure development.
