Watercolor exhibitions showcase Portuguese landscapes and viticulture
Two distinct watercolor exhibitions are currently being showcased in Portugal.
At the Museu do Douro, the exhibition ‘Castas Portuguesas’ features previously unpublished watercolors by Emílio de Oliveira Pimentel (1844–1880). These works, recently discovered in the archives of the University of Coimbra, provide a detailed scientific and artistic representation of Portuguese grapevine varieties (Vitis vinifera). The collection is noted for its technical precision in depicting grapes, clusters, and foliage, serving as a historical record of 19th-century viticulture. The exhibition is scheduled to run until November 24, 2026.
In Pindelo, artist Abílio Guimarães has inaugurated ‘Memórias do Nosso Tempo’, part of a traveling series across the 19 parishes of Oliveira de Azeméis. The exhibition includes nine works dedicated to Pindelo, featuring landscapes and local landmarks such as Pedra Má and Pinhão. The project, inspired by Guimarães' book of the same name, combines paintings and texts to document local memories and landscapes.
