Waterloo Region District School Board launches support office

The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) has launched a new Student and Family Support Office. The initiative is designed to assist parents, families, and caregivers in navigating the school system when they have questions or concerns regarding a child’s education that extend beyond the individual school level.

The office was established in alignment with the Ministry of Education’s Policy/Program Memorandum No. 170, which concerns school board communication with parents. While the new office provides additional assistance, the WRDSB continues to encourage families to follow its established process for addressing concerns, which involves communicating first with educators, principals, vice-principals, superintendents, or the Chief Education Officer.

Regarding communication timelines, the WRDSB stated that all inquiries will receive an acknowledgement within two business days, with a full response provided within five business days of receipt. In cases requiring extensive support, the board will provide an estimated date for a resolution.
