Waterloo Region updates transit funding and public health services

The Region of Waterloo is implementing several infrastructure and community updates. The Ontario government has approved a $3.4 million investment through the Ontario Transit Investment Fund to support expanded township transit, a component of Grand River Transit’s 2025 Business Plan. However, Grand River Transit reported a 9.6% drop in ridership, attributed to a reduction in international students.

In Cambridge, officials are planning information sessions regarding e-scooter and e-bike concerns, while road safety improvements are being considered for Myers Road. Meanwhile, the Region of Waterloo Public Health Neighbourhood Bus has debuted a new multi-colored design. The updated look, which includes “welcome neighbour” greetings in multiple languages and Indigenous dialects, was selected by community members who received vaccinations on the mobile clinic over the past year.

Additionally, municipal elections are scheduled for October 26, with candidate nomination deadlines approaching on August 21.
