Waterspout appears in Gia Lai sea area

A rare waterspout was recently observed in the My Duc sea area of Gia Lai. The phenomenon, captured on video by a local resident, featured a distinct swirling column extending from convective clouds down to the water's surface, drawing seawater upward into the air.

Nguyen Dang Hung, Director of the Gia Lai Hydro-Meteorological Station, noted that this is a rare occurrence for the region. Experts suggest the event was driven by strong convective cloud development, likely triggered by the transition from a prolonged period of heat to the rainy season, which increases atmospheric instability.

Meteorologists warn that such waterspouts are dangerous meteorological events. Residents are advised to watch for warning signs, such as heavy storm clouds with low-hanging, funnel-shaped bases, which indicate developing rotating air currents.
