Waterways in Poland face scenic potential and low water challenges

The waterways of the Lubuskie region and surrounding areas offer diverse routes for water enthusiasts, ranging from calm lakes to winding rivers. One notable route, the ‘Towards the Baltic’ trail, begins at Lake Lipie Długie, moving through Lake Słowa and Lake Osiek before transitioning into the Mierzęcka Struga and the Drawa River. The journey continues through the Noteć River to the Warta River, which flows through Gorzów Wielkopolski and Kostrzyn nad Odrą toward the Odra.

However, recreational boating and navigation are facing significant challenges due to declining water levels in European rivers and canals. Low water levels have impacted routes along the Odra, Elbe, Rhine, and Danube. In the Warta region, extremely low water levels have limited access to local sailing clubs, such as the Delfin Sailing Club, highlighting a need for infrastructure modernization and deepening of port basins to accommodate changing environmental conditions.
