Police responded to a 911 call from a Meijer grocery store in Waukesha, Wisconsin, after a 21‑year‑old man reported he was armed with a knife and had taken a 59‑year‑old male hostage. A crisis negotiator made contact, but the suspect refused to drop the weapon. An officer then discharged his firearm, striking the suspect, who was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The hostage received non‑life‑threatening injuries and was also treated at a local hospital. The officer involved, a 26‑year‑old with five years of experience, was placed on administrative leave. The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team is leading the investigation, with the Greenfield Police Department as the lead agency under Wisconsin law, and the case will be reviewed by the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office.
