Indonesia revokes licenses of five companies over forest fires
Indonesia is intensifying law enforcement against forest and land fires (Karhutla). Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni announced the revocation of business licenses for five companies operating in Kalimantan. The companies, including PT Wana Lestari Jaya and PT Grace Putri Perdana, hold concessions totaling 92,464 hectares, with a combined burned area of 1,169.13 hectares. The Minister stated this action follows orders from President Prabowo Subianto to enforce laws strictly against both individuals and corporations.
Nationwide, authorities have reported significant fire activity. In 10 provinces, 39 companies have been sealed and 112 individuals named as suspects. Recent incidents include a 60-hectare fire in Minahasa Utara and a 2-hectare fire in Way Kambas National Park. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) noted that while El Nino exacerbates drought, human negligence remains the primary driver of these fires. The government has deployed over 43,000 personnel and dozens of water-bombing helicopters to manage the crisis.
