Waymo expands autonomous robotaxi service to Denver, San Diego, and Tampa
Waymo has expanded its autonomous robotaxi service to several new U.S. cities, including Denver, San Diego, and Tampa. The expansion follows a ruling by the California Public Utilities Commission allowing the company to operate in additional counties such as Marin, Napa, Orange, and Riverside.
The rollout has drawn mixed reactions. While labor unions and safety advocates have raised concerns regarding labor standards and potential glitches affecting first responders, supporters have praised the technology. Disability advocates, such as members of the Foundation Fighting Blindness, have highlighted the service as a life-changing tool for independence and personal safety for those with visual impairments.
